What does it mean to you to experience a sacred morning?

Stirring within each soul is a dream painted by the Creator aching to be chased, but all too often we live in a state of stagnation. A state where our lives have become caged by hitting the snooze over and over again. What do I mean?

Well, instead of creating a sacred, nourishing ritual with our Savior, we are throwing on makeup, downing a bowl of cereal, and grabbing our coffee with an inward hatred to start our day.

To help guide you on your journey to a snooze less morning, I have stitched together 5 daily habits that will help shift your perspective about mornings, cultivate an abundance of energy and help you begin to create your dream life. These rituals are an invitation to move throughout your day with our Creator, immersed in His presence. (see how Jesus started His day in Mark 1:35) Are you ready?

1. Express gratitude

Before the swarms of worries connect with your thoughts after your alarm, express gratitude, shifting your focus onto the beauty in the mornings. Wait. What?!? Yes, you read that right. Allow yourself to let out a big exhale, smile and say“ Good morning Jesus” embracing the truth that He’s got you today. I mean I think that’s a pretty good reason to smile.

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

“Rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with
thankfulness.” Colossians 2:7

Bonus: Write down or say aloud 3-5 things you are grateful for in that present moment. Maybe it is your heart beating, and you place your hand on your chest, deeply feeling it sustaining your existence.

2. Drink Water

Nourishing your body with a cool glass of water in the mornings is a simple way of energizing and waking you up. This practice allows the toxins to be flushed out of your system, infuses your brain with more clarity and fires up your metabolism. So keep a glass by your bed. You can thank me later, after you add this into your sacred morning routine.

Bonus: adding lemon, apple cider vinegar or even some berries help boost your metabolism, detox your body and clear your skin.

3. Cleanse your Space

Create a sanctuary where you meet your Savior and can be fully immersed in His presence without feeling anxious or stressed about the leftover bag of popcorn on your bedroom floor.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:6. Make your bed, light a candle, get rid of things that no longer serve you. As an added this helps you from falling back asleep. (I may or may not be very guilty of on occasion.)

Bonus: Cleaning your little sanctuary before collapsing into bed, may be beneficial if your mornings are overflowing with things to do.

4. Meditate

Mmmm…this practice is something I am still working towards consistently, but one that melts me into His peace. It allows my mind to clear so that I am more capable of listening to my Creators whispers of truth.

I highly encourage you to infuse this practice into your morning. I simply set my timer for 2-10 minutes, turn on some peaceful nature or piano sounds and focus on my breath, gratitude, a word or a bible verse. When I carve out time to really tune into the Holy Spirit, releasing negative emotions/thoughts I am met with His warm tranquility and it is so beautiful to begin the morning in this state.

Bonus: During this time I love reading my bible, journaling and simply tuning into the Holy Spirit.

5. Move your body

We are each blessed with a beautiful body. A “sacred temple” (1 Corinthians 3:17) that should be our privilege to nourish and nurture. Whether it be some light stretching, a morning jog, 15 minutes of yoga or a full out HIIT workout, increase your heart rate and wake up your limbs before you settle into your desk for the rest of the day.

“If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.” 1 Corinthians 3:17

Bonus: after your workout, refuel and nourish your body with a nice breakfast. Whether it be some oatmeal, peanut butter toast, or smoothie, eat food that will give you the energy to chase your dreams.

What does a sacred morning look like to you?
